What is a Surveyor Surveyor invoice?

A surveyor invoice covers the broad range of professional surveying services provided by RICS-qualified surveyors working across building surveying, measured surveys, geomatics, party wall matters, and dilapidations. UK building surveyors advise on building pathology, refurbishment projects, and planned maintenance. Geomatics/land surveyors produce topographic, measured building, and utility surveys using GPS, total station, and 3D laser scanning technology. Surveying fees depend on the discipline, scope, and complexity of the survey. Measured building surveys and topographic surveys are often priced as a project fee based on the floor area and number of floors. Party wall surveys are charged per property affected. Dilapidations reports and schedules of condition are commonly charged at an hourly rate or as a fixed project fee. RICS members must adhere to professional standards and carry PI insurance.

How to invoice as a Surveyor surveyor

Surveyors typically invoice on delivery of the survey drawings or report, with Net 14 payment terms. For large projects, a deposit at instruction (typically 25–30%) is appropriate, particularly where significant equipment or field time is committed in advance. For party wall matters, fees are charged to the building owner who commissioned the surveyor. The Act also allows for the adjoining owner's reasonable surveyor fees to be charged to the building owner — invoice accordingly and clearly reference the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 on the invoice. For dilapidations and dispute-related surveying, records of time spent and correspondence are essential. Maintain a detailed time log for hourly-rate instructions.
