Invoice clients for eye examinations, contact lens consultations, and specialist eyecare. Professional invoices from Tidybill.
An optometrist invoice covers clinical eye examinations, contact lens assessments, specialist low vision assessments, and associated eyecare services. Independent optometrists and domiciliary eyecare practitioners invoice patients for NHS or private eye examinations, contact lens fitting and aftercare, dry eye assessments, myopia management, and specialised examinations not covered by the NHS. Contact lenses and spectacles are separate product sales from the eye examination service. Optometrists are regulated by the General Optical Council (GOC) and the GOC registration number should appear on professional invoices. Eye examinations are complex from a VAT perspective: private eye examinations may be VAT-exempt; spectacle and contact lens sales are subject to VAT.
| Service | Typical Rate | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Private eye examination | 55 | examination |
| Contact lens fitting and trial | 60 | consultation |
| Contact lens annual aftercare | 80 | year |

Issue invoices after the examination or assessment. GOC registration number must appear on clinical invoices. Private eye examinations by GOC-registered optometrists are VAT-exempt as medical services. Contact lens and spectacle sales are product sales subject to VAT. Net immediate for private patients.
