Should a brand photographer receipt show VAT or GST?
If you are registered for VAT or GST, yes: your receipts must clearly show the tax registration number, the net amount, the tax rate, the tax amount, and the gross total. This is the document your client will use to reclaim input tax. Receipts that omit tax details cannot be used for that purpose and may cause disputes. If you are not registered for consumption tax, state "No VAT/GST applicable" on the receipt to avoid any ambiguity.
Is a bank statement sufficient, or do I still need to issue a brand photographer receipt?
A bank statement alone is not a substitute for a proper receipt. Bank entries typically show an amount, a date, and a reference, but do not describe what the payment was for, who received it, or what services were rendered. Tax authorities, auditors, and insurers expect formal receipts as primary evidence of a transaction.
